NSW M.S.D. Grand Prix Round 1 - Pistol
Match Report
Saturday 27th January was a warm and sunny day as we arrived at the John Moroney Correctional Centre shooting range. Located near Richmond, the range is reached easily from any direction being only a few minutes drive from the West Link Expressway. The complex has several 50m. ranges and is well equipped with covered firing positions and BBQ cooking and dining areas. Unfortunately problems with late advertising kept the numbers down to sixteen shooters.
The 3 Position deliberate was the first match on the agenda. Rob Irving (Sthn. Highlands) top scored in class 2 with a 179.09 followed by Pat O’Moore (Kurrajong) and Glen Williams (Kurrajong) tying for second place both shooting class3 with 175.07. Terry Lark (Mudgee) was 4th shooting class 2 with 173.06.
In the 3 Range Core match Rob Irving shot a 352.20 followed by Pat O’Moore on 351.19 and Wal Cameron (Tamworth) class 4 on 349.18.
The kneeling deliberate match was won by Glen Williams with 119.03 followed by Pat O’Moore on 118.07 and Rob Irving on 118.05.
The Standing Barricade shoot was won by Glen Williams on 177.09 with Rob Irving second on 177.08 and Jim Telfer third on 174.07.
A novelty Turkey shoot was the final match and this was won by Wal Cameron on straight score and he retained the honour despite attempts to bribe the scorer by other shooters.
Once again good humour and smiles ruled the whole days shooting. The shoot was characterised by some excellent scores being shot with very close results. Also great prizes were awarded with the top six shooters in the main events being given bottles of wine in addition to their medals.
This competition was possible thanks to the organizing efforts of Kerry Benson and Peter Pitchford who together with Kerry’s’ mother and (who cooked a great sausage “breakfast / morning tea” and bacon & egg sandwich lunch). Thanks also to J.M.C.C. for use of the venue and Peter Pitchford for his work as chief scorer.
