The Grand
Prix was started in grand style at one of the best ranges in NSW, Grafton.
49 shooters
signed on for what was to become a flawless weekend of competition and high
spirited shooting.
The weekend
kicked off with Pistol GP at the Grafton Pistol Club complex. It is a beautiful
range with all the shooting facilities one could imagine. After last years GP
round, Grafton Pistol Club agreed to host the pistol events this year. Triggs’y
& his crew did a great job thus allowing Brian & Nick to concentrate on the
rifle events. Pistol was a great event, and many people need to be thanked for
that, but we thank them all.
First event
on Saturday was the Rifle GP, and started with the 3P core match and Rapid Fire
– the main scoring matches for the competition. Conditions were hot but not
windy enabling good scores to be posted. Saturday closed out with the optical
rile matches – 300 single and double snaps, on quarter size targets, and a 3P
Core walk-down. The butts range makes an event like these optical snaps
possible, and are a HUGE amount of fun – whenever a butts range is in use, the
snap matches are a must.
Sunday
followed with the Australian High Power Rifle Masters. Many considered this
equally important an event for the weekend as the GP event.
Special
thanks goes to SSAA Grafton Vice President Don Parsons who shot in the first
details then ducked back to the laptop to commence a great job of scoring
duties. Well done Don!
Organisers
Brian Haynes & Nick Abrahall and all the volunteers made sure everyone had a hot
shower, plenty to eat & drink and a commemorative scoring book to record their
success, or otherwise. The whole weekend turned out to be a great piece of
co-operative planning and teamwork.
