Introduction
Start your engines! The 2004 Grand Prix season starts with the first round in January 2004. The series will run until all the last scheduled round is complete. Each and every SSAA member can, and is encouraged to, compete. Licensed shooters should get in touch with your local range discipline captain or the NSW state discipline chairman for information. Alternatively, a host of information for the GP series can be found at the NSW web site http://www.ssaa.org.au/nsw/msd
The GP series is very easy. Simply follow the discipline calendar and attend as many of the GP rounds as possible. Each shooters best 3 scores from all the rounds contested are aggregated to give each shooter a grand total. This total is used to decide the 2004 NSW Military/Service Rifle Grand Prix series winners. For example, if you attend 5 shoots, you drop your 2 worst scores etc (the more shoots, the more scores to choose from and the more chances of doing well). Unlike 2003, NO state postal shoot is used in the GP grand aggregate.
GP rounds and series are shot in accordance with National Rule Book and NSW amendments plus GP particular rules – as listed. Shooters are expected to be familiar with these.
Rifle and Pistol Classes
(See end of document for specific details)
The grade a shooter contests each GP Round in is based on their current grade at that time, irrespective if achieved from GP Rounds, club shoots or other. At the conclusion of the series, each shooter’s final result will be placed into the achieved grade as at the end of the Series or at the end of the last round contested. So, if a shooter moves up in grade by the end of the last round contested, then that shooters final grade at that time will be the grade used at the Series aggregate conclusion.
Round results will be posted IN FULL on the NSW Web Site, with brief results printed, space permitting, in the NSW newsletter. Shooters are asked to frequently check the discipline web site for round and series results. Range captains are asked to print them for their range notice board.
Series scores disputes, after consultation with the web site, must be in writing and in the hands of the SDC by 31st August 2004. Disputes will go before disputes committee, made up of 1 person from each range hosting a GP round, wherever reasonably possible, for ruling. No late disputes will be actioned.
Rifle GP Rounds
Each round will have the winners by grade based on the aggregate of the scheduled matches that make up the GP event. Trophies will be allocated on this bases and presented to the shooters at the conclusion of the round competition. Top winners have their name placed on the perpetual shield.
Rifle GP Series Aggregate
These medals are funded by host range/branch contributions….more budget equals more trophies. Winners will be based on aggregate of each shooters 3 best round scores. Hopefully funds will be available to award trophies to all places, by grades and overall Top Guns. Winners of the series also have their names added to the perpetual shield. Presentation of such trophies will be held at the following NSW State Championships.
Pistol GP Rounds and Series Aggregate
With the kick-off in 2004 of pistol state endorsed matches and events, this series is to “feel the water” and will carry trophies for top 12 shooters in the Championship Series only.
This Grand Prix series is free to competitors as participation is by way of default when attending GP rounds. Participation in each round is chargeable at the rate as set by the host branch/club.

2004 RIFLE GRAND PRIX
All classes and specifications of rifle are as per the National Discipline Rule Book. This series is only open to rifles in class A/B/C/G etc (any Std/As-issued iron sights only rifle). Shooters do not need to use the same rifle at each GP round - a different rifle may be used over the course of the series.
GP EVENT/ROUND MATCHES
Matches that will be shot to make up the Grand Prix rounds are:
- SSAA 3P Core event
- SSAA Rapid Fire B event
The detail of these matches is outlined in the National rule book in conjunction with NSW rule amendments (Note: NSW rule amendment of national rule regarding “unfired rounds” will be practiced in the NSW GP rounds or series – ie. no penalty for unfired rounds will apply).
HOST ADDITIONS TO THE EVENT
Of course, the hosts may choose to shoot as many additional matches that will fit into their range time schedule. However, for participant’s sake, both GP matches MUST be shot on the same day unless special circumstances prevent this from happening. For example, the NSW Clubs Challenge may be made up of 5, or so, matches shot over a whole weekend, but both the 3P and Rapid B must be shot back to back on the same day. Every effort must be made such that this practice is followed at every GP round wherever possible.
2004 PISTOL GRAND PRIX
All classes and specifications of pistol are as per the National Discipline Rule Book. Only those pistols in class 1 & 2 may compete, and all must be standard / as issued.
This series will not differentiate between class 1 & 2 pistols. Both class 1 & 2 will compete together. It is the shooters choice to decide which type of pistol they will use.
When competing at the GP rounds, hosts my run the GP matches amongst other matches to make up their overall pistol event, allowing shooters to nominate and contest the event in both pistol classes 1 & 2. If this is the case, then shooters will be asked to nominate, BEFORE the event, which class score will be used towards the GP round and series. A different pistol and class may be shot over the course of the series.
GP EVENT/ROUND MATCHES
Matches that make up the Pistol Grand Prix rounds are:
- SSAA 3 Range Core event : CoF Match 1 in National rulebook
- SSAA 3 Position Deliberate : CoF Match 2
The detail of these matches is outlined in the National rulebook in conjunction with NSW rule amendments.
HOST ADDITIONS TO THE EVENT
Of course, the hosts may choose to shoot as many additional matches that will fit into their range time schedule. However, for participant’s sake, both GP matches MUST be shot on the same day unless special circumstances prevent this from happening.
