NSW Vs QLD CHALLENGE SHIELD

     Vs

                                                          New South Wales                       Queensland

In 2001, the Queensland shooters laid down a challenge to New South Wales after a dispute of which state had better “spirit” for the discipline.  The end of the conversation had conceived a new shield that was to be contested at each NSW, QLD State Championships plus the disciplines National Championships.

Format of the shoot is as follows:

-         5 man teams to represent each state, or as agreed by each state representative,

-         1 shooter from each grade starting from highest grade to lowest (Grand Master down to C grade),

-         If both teams cannot fill a particular grade, then shooters from the lowest grade are used - working backwards until the next lowest grade is filled,

Eg.  Ideally, each team should have a shooter from each grade.  If the 1st team has an A grade shooter, but 2nd team does not, then we look for a pair from C-grade, then B-grade until we have 5 shooters from each team matched by grade.  It is also possible, as an extreme example, under this format to have both teams made up of 5 Master grade shooters.

-         Results used to determine the team scores are the aggregate for all the team shooters of all the Std Class A, B & C rifle events,

-         The winning team has it’s state initials and challenge date engraved on the perpetual shield,

-         Each team member receives a trophy – winners and runners up,

-         The winners from the previous round are responsible for supply and cost of the trophies for the next round.

Results since conception.
